Internship ends on the hill this week... Got my first freelancer's paycheck from Nat Geo:) CHEERS

Friday

And so it is Friday

Today I am leaving early to participate in the LITTLE RIVER YOGA Sangha Celebration.

Speaking of which ... HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE! Great article here.

Held at the lovely Lake Barcroft in Virginia, I am pleased to be able to practice with world-renown yogis. I plan to get my paddle board on and even a few henna tats.

Work on the hill today was quiet--I went to FireHook and got a mango-milk smoothie and Panini. Set my afternoon off just right.

Check out Belle's blog post today--was a good list of updates on this week in the District.

Workout Thought: Cross training is the only way to improve ability with decreased risk of injury:)

It Begins

I've always blogged--more or less a bit more privately. For previous blog postings up to this point, you'll have to request a URL--only those with approval can see. Mostly because the quality of content isn't what I want floating around.

Working on the hill in DC has made me paranoid of posting anything I shouldn't---or could be seen as a political no-no.

Fortunately, I will be moving off the hill soon--and unless you're a news entity wanting an anonymous article on hill life as an intern (a piece over done as it is) there isn't much I want to say other than that my office was great--loved my Chief of Staff--my congresswoman had ACTUAL integrity--but hill life wasn't for me.

Here are a few things that got me through the day:

~Capitol Hill Tours

Fun Facts:

The Statue of Freedom Stands on Top (19 feet tall--Statue of Liberty ain't got nothin on her)

The same man who did the Apotheosis of Washington (inside the center of the dome) did the surrounding below Frieze and fell from the scaffold once (over 100-foot drop) good thing he hung on--somebody saved him--but only after he had hung there for several minutes. He was an old guy too--in his 70s.

Anyone who wants to can go into the CVC (Capitol Visitor's Center) but once you come into the Capitol you have to have a staffer/tour guide.

There are tunnels underground all over Capitol Hill--if you wanted--you could stay on the hill for DAYZZZ and never see the light of day. Your diet would be bland.

~If you're a lady, particularly a business lady, you will love Belle. CapHillStyle.com

~The U.S. Botanic Gardens-when it's hot, when you're tired of Greek and Roman architecture, get to the Jungle

~Sweet Green--delicious, fresh salads--a good area on Penn for great lunch:)

~When you're writing constituent letters, double check you understand what they're actually writing about.

Most hill staffers are surprisingly young.

If you move to DC, start calling it The District. It sounds very Fahrenheit 451/Hunger Games, but you're not going downtown--it's the District.

More to come.
